I’m in my 30s and here is my ultimate fall capsule collection checklist

I have something to admit: I spent most of my 20s hoarding clothes (shopping is sort of my job, can you blame me?), and it wasn’t until I was in my 30s that I decided to start downsizing my wardrobe. To buy and consume fashion in a more sustainable way and to make everyday clothing easier, I decided to create a capsule wardrobe full of timeless and versatile clothes and accessories. As autumn is in full swing, the time has come for my collection of carefully selected pieces: think of simple and elegant coats, oversized blazers, and classic ankle boots– to really shine.

Of course, a fall capsule collection isn’t limited to outerwear and boots; there are several items that I consider absolute necessities to prepare for a solid fall outfit week. A good mix of polish and cozy, these are the pieces I look for on a daily basis. Believe me, they’re great for layering and breaking the trend cycle.

Before, I outlined eight essentials to building your own fall capsule collection – think of it as kind of a checklist. Keep scrolling for all the essential fall clothing for women and snag some of my favorite pieces while you’re at it.

1. Brown blazers

From a distance, a brown blazer is my number one fall essential because you can wear one over any outfit and look instantly polished (yes, even sweatshirts). Plus, I like it to be slightly less dressy than a black blazer.

Zara Elbow Wool Blend Blazer ($ 129)

This one features super cute elbow pads.

Nanushka Hathi Vegan Leather Blazer ($ 850)

Not a fan of plaid? Go for a similar style in buttery vegan leather.

Mango Oversized Wool Blazer ($ 170)

Chocolate brown is perhaps my favorite neutral.

Eloquii Plaid blazer ($ 130)

Sure, this blazer looks great on its own, but as a full three piece suit? I am obsessed.

2. Black wool coats

A simple black coat is always a reliable cold-weather staple, as it adds much-needed warmth without dominating the rest of your look. I like mine long and flexible, like above.

& other stories Relaxed Wool Coat ($ 249)

Added this one to my collection statistic.

Reform Greenwich coat ($ 288)

This one too.

Zara Oversized Wool Coat ($ 219)

Another shot from Zara.

3. Camel turtleneck

When it comes to layering, a camel turtleneck is always a good basic to have on hand. The same goes for other neutral shades, like beige.

H&M Cropped Turtleneck Sweater ($ 18)

This short style is so easy to wear and it comes in several different colors.

Vincent Sleeveless Wool Turtleneck Top ($ 165)

Sleeveless options are also essential as they won’t pile up under tighter jackets and blazers. (And if you’re a naturally sweaty person like me, you’ll appreciate your pits for a little breath.)

Good American Seamless High Neck Bodysuit ($ 59)

Turtleneck bodysuits are another favorite. They make it easy to put on pants and skirts and won’t pack up every time you sit down.

4. Heavyweight knit sweaters

who does not Do you like a good, cozy sweater? I am personally a fan of the cropped versions which can be dressed up or dressed up.

Eloquii Cropped turtleneck with rolled cuffs ($ 70)

Maximum comfort.

Free people Confetti Sweater ($ 98)

I will live in this one.

WhoWhatWear Collection Christine sweater ($ 135)

This baby pink color is too pretty.

5. Leather pants

Whether you go for real or fake, leather pants always look chic. I like to have a few different colors in my closet at all times.

Who What to Wear Collection Eli Vegan Leather Relaxed Pants ($ 155)

These stylish pants are made with buttery soft vegan leather that you have to feel to believe.

We free them The It Factor Vegan Pant ($ 98)

Another great vegan option.

Good American Better Than Leather Good Icon ($ 175)

Yes I need it.

6. Pleated midi skirts

Pleated skirts can be worn all year round, of course, but in my opinion they look great with a leather trench coat or under an oversized sweater. They have become a fall favorite for me.

Joseph Asymmetric Pleated Satin Crepe Midi Skirt ($ 475)

This asymmetrical cut is too beautiful.

H&M Pleated skirt ($ 40)

Simple but so pretty.

Who What to Wear Collection Avery Pleated Midi Skirt ($ 125)

How good would this look with an oversized blazer?

7. Chunky loafers

Loafers might be a trending item this season, but they’re also a classic that never goes out of style. For me, the bigger they are the better, but there are also many simpler styles.

Charles and Keith Black Beaded Platform Loafers ($ 83)

Okay, these are amazing.

Sam Edelman’s circus Everly Loafers ($ 90)

Sam Edelman is a great brand of shoes at reasonable prices.

Franco Sarto Balin platform loafers ($ 89)

This subtle burgundy hue adds just a pop of color while remaining neutral.

8. Black ankle boots

Don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge fan of this season’s boot trends – the knee-length notch sole styles that we see all over the place. But you really can’t go wrong with classic black low heel ankle boots. Comfortable and easy to put on, they’re an everyday staple that instantly elevates any look.

WhoWhatWear Collection Christina Boot ($ 149)

Right now, I love square toe styles.

Aeyde Kate Boots ($ 475)

Chelsea boots with heels always look great.

& other stories Heeled Leather Chelsea Boots ($ 179)

Another classic style that you will wear for years to come.
