Bringing Byron Bay to the Capital: Boho Luxe Market

Locals yearning for a taste of the carefree northern lifestyle will be delighted when the Boho Luxe Market & Boho Luxe Bride arrive in the capital next weekend, June 17-19.

Founder Dani Djokic says she got tired of regular market circuits that offered no music, inspiration or atmosphere, so she decided to create her own. The first Boho Luxe Market was held in Melbourne over a single day in 2017, and straight away Djokic knew they were onto something special. Now the three-day event is heading to four cities across the country, with Canberra being the latest to host.

“We just thought Canberra was next on the list, not too far for a road trip for our Melbourne merchants,” says Djokic.

EPIC will house the markets here in Canberra from Friday evening. Guests arriving between 5:15 and 6:00 p.m. will be greeted with a complimentary sound treatment, a practice that uses the vibrations of musical instruments, such as drums, to relax and bring harmony to the body. Djokic hopes this will help set the mood for the experience and allow people to come in with an open mind. Free sound healings will also take place starting at 10:30 a.m. each day over the weekend.

On Saturday and Sunday, the experience begins before attendees arrive at the gates as live drumming performances outside the building will greet approaching guests. Once inside, the bohemian vibe comes to life.

Weekend guests will be treated to musical sound healings.

Those who seek to nurture their soul will find peace in the realm of psychic and well-being; highway psychics will be offering readings all weekend. You don’t need to book your reading in advance, just show up and see which reader appeals to you.

Psychics aren’t the only soul food on offer; a sound healing festival is held daily, while healing supplements and retreats will be offered by vendors.

Those looking to feed their stomachs can head to the picnic section to indulge in some of the delicious food trucks. Local favorite Super Bao has its Chinese-Australian delights, Jarochos will serve authentic Mexican, while La Empanda offers curated South American cuisine. For adult drinks and sweet tooths, there’s Canberra’s Kombi Keg and Bungendore’s Mellabella Gelato.

On Saturday, you can see some of the models from the Melbourne brand Sacred Circus at a fashion show. Djokic thinks it’s important for people to see what clothes look like on bodies and not just on hangers and mannequins.

Inspiration abounds for the bohemian bride, with a giant teepee display set up by a Canberra-area rental service, plus beautiful wedding dresses and intricate accessories for brides wanting to add the perfect bohemian touch on their special day.

If you’ve ever wanted to live out your bohemian queen fantasy, flower crown workshops are available, but space is limited. Many other workshops take place at weekends, with children invited to take part in a free macrame workshop on Saturday mornings and a dream catcher workshop on Sundays.
