Mr. Saturday Spring/Summer 2023 Collection

Led by Joey Gollish, Toronto-based brand Mr. Saturday bases its design strategy on the study of history and defining moments in culture. His latest collection for spring/summer 2023 goes in the same direction through his exploration of European cabaret.

Unveiled during Paris Fashion Week, the new collection titled “Sex & Politics: Shadow Play At Le Chat Noir” brings the stories of Le Chat Noir, Cabaret Voltaire and more to the catwalk. Beyond its seductive nature, the new collection is inspired by the freedom and solitude that these places offered to the LGBTQ+ community. Bringing this story to life, cutting-edge, revamped design hints extend to both men’s and women’s apparel.

Garments in the collection contain the brand’s signature oversized silhouettes that touch on tailoring, checkered open-knit merino sweaters, jackets and slightly cropped button-up shirts. Elsewhere in the collection you will find relaxed trousers, pleated skirts and shorts. What elevates the range of pieces is the incorporation of shadow play into the collection, seen with sheer organza, cotton poplins and merino knits. Beyond the fabrications, there are chat graphics that add another layer of sexual and political commentary.

Other highlights of the collection that leaned into edgy styles included a soft blue and white European ballgown with an exposed back, a sleeveless open-breasted turtleneck with a black leather harness, and slippers. personalized boxing gloves. Rounding out the collection’s looks are new sunglasses silhouettes like the rounded “Hugo” eye, plus new handbags designed in partnership with Roots.
