Robi Axiata Ltd, the second largest mobile operator in Bangladesh, has appointed Rajeev Sethi as managing director.

The trader made the disclosure in a post on the Dhaka Stock Exchange today.

Robi has been without a full-time CEO since August last year when Mahtab Uddin Ahmed Robi resigned from his post.

Since then, Robi’s chief financial officer, Riyaaz Rasheed, has served the company as interim CEO.

Sethi, former CEO of Grameenphone, took over this month.

In a press release, Hans Wijayasuriya and Vivek Sood, Acting Group CEO of Axiata Group Berhad, said: “On behalf of Axiata Group management, we are very pleased to welcome Rajeev to the Robi family.

He has significant experience in the ICT industry, including leadership engagements with companies such as Vodafone, HP, Hutchison Telecom and Asian Paints.

Sethi joins Robi after notable success in turning around Myanmar’s leading mobile operator, Ooredoo, as CEO.

He earned an MBA in Marketing, Finance and Operations from the Indian Institute of Management in Lucknow.

In July, Robi had 5.48 crore mobile phone subscribers in an 18.40 crore market, second only to market leader Grameenphone, which has 8.4 crore subscribers, according to data from the Regulatory Commission. telecommunications of Bangladesh.

Shares in Robi, however, were unchanged at Tk 30 on the Dhaka Stock Exchange at the time of this report’s filing at 12:45 p.m.
