Saddle up, because the long-awaited return of Yellowstone is finally here.
It turns out that one of the biggest fans in the world is a face you’re bound to recognize: Karl Stefanovic.
The Today The host couldn’t be happier to have the hit series return to screens today with a two-hour premiere event for Season 5 on the same day as the US and only on Stan.

“The opening scenes of the first episode are some of the most powerful scenes I’ve ever seen,” Stefanovic told 9Entertainment.
He discovered the neo-Western series during COVID-19, citing that seeing the vast expanses of Montana was exactly what he needed during the lockdown.
“Everyone looked a bit trapped at home looking inside their walls and seeing the beauty of Montana, I was just blown away,” he explained.
“It was a transformative thing for me.”
Stefanovic says part of the show’s appeal is its accuracy.
“Kevin Costner [who plays John Dutton] is the most brilliant actor. He is the embodiment of that role of someone – like real people I know – on big cattle ranches in Australia,” he added.
Stefanovic isn’t lying when he says he’s “completely engrossed in this world”.
The presenter revealed that he has a very specific ritual he sticks to before watching an episode of Yellow stone.

“I begin to dress when I look Yellowstone,” admits Stefanovic.
“I have my cowboy hat on. I completely immerse myself in the Yellowstone live. I have leggings, a plaid shirt, padded leather belts and I have the RMs.
“I’m sitting on the edge of the couch like it’s a horse. And I watch, just riveted.”
Stefanovic, like millions of other fans, is looking forward to the new season.
Season 5 is set to focus on Costner’s character, John Dutton, the owner of the Yellowstone Ranch as he is elected governor of the US state of Montana, a plot which Stefanovic believes will be successful.
“Having Dutton run for office is a very good addition,” he said.
“It looks like they could take the show off the shelf and have it compare the political intricacies of a farm to real-life politics.
“It’s going to get a little bigger, grander and a lot more interesting.”

You can hear the excitement in Stefanovic’s voice when he talks about the characters, he’s really excited for the show to return.
So why does Stefanovic think more Aussies should watch Yellowstone?
“You see so many shows with CGI, for me it just doesn’t quite work,” he said.
“In Yellowstone, there’s a lot of fancy stuff going on, but you have characters like Rip that I quietly and reluctantly fell in love with. These are real characters and real dialogue.
“I love it. It’s just pure Yellowstone escape.”
